Freedom Estate is a small complex with only 6 units under Thai / Swiss management. It is located 6 km south of the village of Saladan (jetty), directly above the 2 km long, sandy Phra-Ae beach. The rooms are built in duplex style 25 meters above the sea, on a beautiful hillside with sea views. The distance to the beach is 300 meters or 10 minutes on foot. Right below us on the main street, just 5 minutes walk away, are several restaurants, shops, a 7/11 24-hour Mini-mart, pharmacy, travel agencies, diving schools, bars and much more.

Your hosts are Phenprapha and Rolf, who both arrived in Koh Lanta 30 years ago. The name Freedom Estate comes from Phen's Freedom Bar, a small romantic beach bar that Phen had run all alone before teaming up with Rolf to build what is now the Freedom Estate. We have been welcoming guests from all over the world for more than 20 years now.

Depends on what you are looking for

😀 - The apartment with all the amenities is comfy and the view is great. Supplied fresh water was brilliant (no more plastic!). 😞 - However, we felt really duped as in all the pictures you can't really tell all the apartments are actually duplexes... AND the duplex next to you is also right there so really the views and comforts are marred by others so close to you (our duplex neighbour was probably less than 2 metres away and loud. And the neighbors basically were in eyeline/earshot all the time). If your looking for seclusion and a feeling of peace ... We can't recommend. We were happy we only stayed 2 nights. Furthermore, we didn't understand why the co-owner and staff (Rolf was fine for intro and check-in) were around and so very close... Like the day we were to check out they started cleaning the room before we left... Why? So bizarre and invasive. And standing on our porch while we were inside? Why? Generally uncomfortable and never felt alone.

Perfect place to spend a holiday or park yourself if you are touring the country.

😀 - The owners are fantastic people. They are always around if you need them and kindly help you out if need be. But, the best thing is that they leave you alone if you want to be alone. The property is off the main road and on a hill so it is quiet and the grounds are maintained every day by a nice couple of locals. Great front balcony that has a small view of the sea. 😞 - Nothing. It was perfect for me. I renewed after my initital two weeks and may do so again.
